Frequently Asked Questions

Q. If I join the advisory service, will I always deal with the same advisor?
   
A. You will be assigned a designated advisor as your main contact.They will be an employment solicitor or barrister. If he or she is not available, you will be able to speak to another legal advisor.
 
   
Q. Are all your advisors qualified?
 
A. Yes. They are all lawyers or HR specialists with appropriate experience.
 
   
Q. May I purchase the insurance policy without the advisory service?
 
A. No. We cannot insure our customers who do not follow our advice and procedures. If you purchase the insurance, the advisory service is charged at a substantially reduced rate.
 
   
Q. How much does the service cost?
 
A.

Advisory service - a company with up to 100 staff would pay £600 per year plus VAT. If you purchase the insurance, the cost for the service is reduced to £400 per year plus VAT.
Insurance
- the cost of the insurance is calcualted on your annual wage roll costs.
For a guide, a company with a wageroll of £1m would normally pay around £1,110.00 plus IPT for a years cover against tribunal costs and awards of £100,000 per claim . Go to the "Insurance Cover" page for more information.

   
 
Q. The insurance policy only covers my business for employment tribunals if I have followed your advice and obtained your consent before dismissing anyone or making a fundamental change in terms of employment.
Does this mean you will restrict my freedom to manage my business?
 
A. No. We understand the need to run your business effectively. We always try to be constructive and practical in the advice we give. If we cannot approve a dismissal immediately, we will usually suggest a course of action which should achieve the desired result whilst minimising the chances of a successful tribunal application.
 
   
Q. Who is behind the service?
 
A. staffrelations is run by Amicus Legal Limited and the insurance policy is underwritten by DAS Legal Expenses Insurance Company Ltd. Amicus Legal Limited is authorised to deal with the insurance on behalf of the underwriters. Amicus Legal Ltd is authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority.
 
   
Q. May I change my mind about membership after joining?
 
A. You are not committed to anything until the insurance policy and or the advisory contract are issued. Then, you may cancel the advisory service at any time and obtain a pro rata refund for complete unused months. The insurance policy is valid for 12 months. You can cancel this policy within 14 days of taking it out. After this you can cancel it at anytime, subject to 21 days notice of cancellation. You can ask staffrelations about getting
a refund of premium if you decide to cancel the policy
 
   
Q. May I pay by monthly instalments?
 
A. You may pay the advisory contract by twelve monthly instalments, however the insurance premium must be paid by one cheque by the inception date.
 
   
Q. Are you insured against giving bad advice?
 
A. Yes, we hold professional indemnity insureance of £3,000,000
 
   
Q. May I telephone you for advice, or am I restricted to emails?
 
A. You may contact us by email, telephone, letter or fax.
